About Us

Beary Cheap Bear Supplies have been established since 1994. As with many crafts our mail order business grew from a hobby in the Australian Bush. Read the story of our early days.

Primary colours
There are three basic colours Red, Blue & Yellow. Colour is a property of light, not an object in itself. Objects have no colour of their own, but merely the ability to reflect a certain section of the visible spectrum. Objects reflect what we perceive, and absorb what we don't see.

Mixing 2 primary colours together gives you a secondary colour i.e. mix the primary colours Red & Yellow to make a secondary colour Orange.

Use the colour wheel above to see how different colours are produced. The more dye you use the stronger the colour. You can mix dye in its dry form or when it has been dissolved in water. The important thing is to measure it accurately and record how much you used. There is nothing worse than creating that wonderful colour but not knowing how you got it.

COLOUR CHARACTERISTICS

The visual appeal of colour, colour has a basic, instinctive appeal to everyone. Colour is a product of light, colour references change as light changes. There is no one consistent colour for any object. Grass may be gray at dawn, bright green at noon and nearly black at night. Colours are affected by their surroundings

Rarely do we see a colour by itself, usually it is in conjunction with other colours. Colours can change dramatically depending on changes in their surrounding colours.

Visual colour mixing

Pigments can only be mixed together to a certain degree, because eventually they break down and become muddied.

Colours are forces radiating energies that have positive and negative effects

Effects on eyes, red=greatest fatigue, blue=least fatigue

Effects on body, red=most exciting, green=most restful, blue=most cheerful

Using just a small range of dyes you can produce almost any colour. The most exciting results are when you dye using "Batik' or "Tie Dye" to create fabric that shows different colours side by side. These methods are explained on our Dyeing page. Once the basics are mastered, dyeing is a creative and rewarding experience & allows you to produce exclusive fabrics that make your bears that much more special.
